Retirement age at 65
The Standing Committee of Parliament on Social Justice and Empowerment has
urged the Central Govt to raise the retirement age of Govt servants from
60 years to 65 years. They noted that growing life span was adding to the need for “productive
ageing”. They also reminded that Senior
Citizens would form 12.4 % of our
population in 2026 (up from 7.5 % in
2001 ). The Committee aid “ We feel
that with the increase in life expectancy
and relatively better stae of health of people, the Govt needs to look at
continuity of employment upto 65 years”.
